A mustard seed faith????

Mustard seed

So last week at work one of my friends and women I look up to came to me and mentioned that I was on her heart. Just the thought of someone else being concerned about me made me feel glad. But then she told me this simple phrase, “ Mustard Seed.” Now, this is one of Jman’s favorite stories of faith. To have faith like a mustard seed is to produce a large bush or move a mountain.

Here is a funny story, Where I used to live, we had mustard bushes, and they were some of the worst to pull out. When we had to pull weeds, we would groan because these were not able to pull out. You had to chop them off.  These resilient yellow flowers grew strong and with one firm root. I can remember as a preteen during the spring months picking the bright yellow mustard flowers and creating bouquets of the ever abundance flowers.

I have often wrested what having faith like a mustard seed meant. Did it mean that little faith creates significant results or great faith creates an abundance of results? What does faith like a mustard seed mean.

Another intriguing  thing about this lady, saying this to me, I had just a day before an opportunity that would shake things up, but I’m not at liberty to talk about yet. Couple this opportunity and my friend is mentioning Mustard seed. I know it was God’s reassuring voice calming the anxiety that bubbled up.

And maybe that’s what faith like a mustard seed means. That faith to know when God is talking to me directly. God usually uses others to get my attention. I can’t tell you how many times I have wrestled with something and God will send someone I look up to say something as simple and confusing as a mustard seed. Or maybe it’s hearing God’s voice during a storm, or just crying out to God to ease the crazy and praying that calm would descend.

Mustard seed faith is not a checklist faith. It’s not an achievement unlocked. It just has faith in those times when I need to call out to God the most. It is having names for my future children even though I don’t know if this will happen. It’s praying to God to help with our finances when a change made and being aware that he has. It’s looking forward to a vacation and praying for that vacation. It’s praying for your spouse and seeing them become good-natured and slow to become angry. Faith like a mustard seed is those everyday moments when you call out to God and trust that he has control over your life.  It is reading your Bible every day to keep the relationship with God alive, even though you may not hear God speaking. It is praying for dinner and giving thanks for the food.

Matthew: 17:20

20 “You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.[d]”

TTFN and God bless you and keep you.
