My Favorite Places in California
I am a California girl born and raised. I lived in Southern California for the first part of my life and Northern California through my adult life. I have been to lots of places. I thought I would share my favorites.
Municipal Rose Garden, San Jose
I graduated from High School in this park. This sprawling park filled with rose bushes and fountains. It’s a place that if you go in the middle of the day, I forget I’m in a bustling city.
April is a beautiful time to visit this garden because the air is perfumed with the scent of the roses.
Safari Park, Escondido
When I was a child it was known as the Wild Animal Park. This is a place where ungulates and rhinos roam free over sprawling green hills. It’s beautiful and I can remember many afternoons visiting this place with my family. It’s one of those places that has a unique magic that whatever is burdening your heart it floats away.
Overfelt Gardens, San Jose
Another garden. What can I say, I have a mother who loves flowers. Overfelt Gardens is a place where my mom and I went to forget about Cancer. Another sprawling park with Geese, Ducks and redwood trees, mixed with Palm trees. It is another place where troubles float away but its also one of the place where I feel at peace. During Cancer treatments, I could pretend I was healthy and walk around till I would get tired. Laugh at the ducks and stare at the turtles. And for an hour I would be normal.
Natural Bridges, Santa Cruz
This is a small beach that is past hustling bustling Beach boardwalk and it a pure slice of California beach beauty. It’s usually not crowded and for someone who needs beach therapy. This is a great place to go. If you go to November through January there are Monarch butterflies, that migrate through, although I haven’t been able to see them yet.
Disneyland, Anaheim
I love this place and so does many others. As a child, I loved the happy endings and the magic that Disney brought into my life. When the world seemed crazy, Disneyland was that reward for never changing. Captured in time and beauty. I still love Disneyland as an adult and thankfully Jman loves it too. My favorite thing to do at Disneyland is getting a cup of tea and delicious pastry for breakfast and then sit on a bench near the castle and just enjoy breakfast.
Lassen
Lassen is a dormant volcano and for a Geology nerd like myself. It’s beautiful and peaceful. I remember going with my family as a child and the passes were closed because of snow. We pulled the car over and like many others had a spontaneous snowball fight.
San Francisco
I love every element of this city. The zoo is beautiful. Golden Gate Park is a dream. The Fisherman’s Wharf is fun and I love being here and exploring. The Second anniversary we were able to stay here. Jman and I explored the palace of fine arts, the zoo, the fisherman’s wharf and enjoyed the city. It is a beautiful city and filled with lovely people. It’s a perfect mix of history and modern.
Seaport Village, San Diego
Seaport Village, a beautiful shopping area right by the San Deigo bay. It’s beautiful and one of the best place to get souvenirs. Standing by the bay and watching the boats come in and out. I can remember coming with my Grandmother. It’s one of her spots and we would shop and have lunch and just enjoy the beautiful sunny weather.
Myrtle Creek, Fallbrook
Myrtle Creek is a beautiful park and creek. Part nursery part fairy garden. It’s the magical place where I felt like Anne of Green Gables for a few hours. Beautiful and rustic adds to the charm of flowers and oak trees. Goats and squirrels romp. This is a beautiful place where it is peaceful and charming all at once. Greenery and peace surround as a little slice of heaven.
So there are some of my favorite spots.
Where are your favorite spots? Let me know in the comments.
Mark 4: 30-32
30 Again Jesus said, “What can we say God’s kingdom is like? What story can we use to explain it? 31 It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds on earth. 32 But when you plant the seed, it grows. It becomes the largest of all garden plants. Its branches are so big that birds can rest in its shade.”
