I write fanfictions and read fanfictions. About the same time, I discovered superheroes I started a love for fanfictions. Its been a love of mine since high school and often I carried around a worn journal with bright stickers on it to school so before class, I could write the ideas in my head.
What are fanfictions and fandom?
Fandom is the community that follows a movie, book, tv show, musical, video game and the list goes on and on. Fanfictions are the fan-written works about the fandom. Usually, it’s the fans that don’t like something that happens in their fandom and they write what they think is a better ending. Take the movie Titanic, for example, there are lots of fanfictions about Jack Dawson surviving at the end of the movie.
This is the basics of fanfictions. Fans get upset about something and write a better solution. When we boil it down, it really about letting your voice be heard. And most of the time the fandom accepts that headcanon.
What is a headcanon? Headcanons are the thoughts about a fandom that a fan believes when it’s hinted at in the fandom. Sometimes fan headcanons become reality and other times they stay headcanons.
I know the internet can be a nasty place. However, in my 15 years of being part of the fanfiction community, I haven’t seen very much meanness. Fandoms community are very kind and very supportive, however, there is an acknowledged understanding that we may not always agree, there is a lot of peaceful agreeing to disagree.
Fandom communities and fanfiction writers are accepting.
I feel like fandom communities are a great example of what Heaven will look like.
God wants us to accept each other’s differences and love each other respectfully. He wants us to have free will and make our decisions. Difference create uniqueness. However, most times people see a difference as strange, and not normal.
God wants us to be unique and different and he wants us to love each other. Love each other. Three simple words that are so hard to understand and follow through.
And loving each other creates belonging.
Leviticus 19:18
“ ‘Do not try to get even. Do not hold anything against any of your people. Instead, love your neighbor as you love yourself. I am the Lord. ‘”
